Project Works – Union Street Central

The push is now on to have the new Union Street Central streetscape ready for Aberdeen’s Christmas Parade on Sunday 15 November.

The bulk of the works will be completed by then with finishing works for the connections into the surrounding streets underway.

To support this, a number of carefully planned overnight activities will be carried out between now and Friday 13 November. These wil include paving and grouting, lighting installations and finishing works along business frontages.

These works are scheduled to minimise any disruption and any noisy works will be completed by 11am.

Some temporary footway closures will be required and on the evening of Friday 6 November, there will be a full pedestrian closure between Correction wynd and Market Stret to allow catenary wires and lighting to be safely lifted into position. Diversions will be clearly signposted and the Correction Wynd stairs will remain open.

Project Works – Smith Screen

Renovation and restoration work on the Smith Screen are now ell under way. These works will continue until early next year and were a later addition to the Union Street Central programme.

Project Works – Market

Good progress continues to be made on the Market building, both inside and out. More of the granite cladding and architectural features are now in place and the external scaffolding along the East Green has been removed.

Inside, the internal fit out is moving through the stages including water proofing, insulation, underfloor heating and preparation for screeding.

Work is also progressing on the outdoor plaza area and developing the new entrance on to Union Street.

Project Works – Castlegate

On the Castlegate the first sections of the south footway have been resurfaced following the successful completion of underground utility works.

The next phase of utility upgrades will take place on the western side of the Castlegate including the areas outside Gio’s by La Lombarda and Blackfriars. New traffic management arrangements will be in place to enable this to happen safely.

Project Works – Beach

Work continues to progress on the eight-storey tower at the beach park with all the stairs now installed and the external cladding underway.

The rest of the park area is virtually complete with minor finishing works underway.
